We ususally see much better compression than 3:1, but we quote 3:1 to be conservative.
- Common File Elimination - This extremely powerful and cost saving feature prevents many files from being stored on the vault. Examples of common files are: idential files (when our software sees that files are idential to those stored on the vault already, the files are not backed up again), and commonly available files such as programs and operating systems.
- Block Level Backups - This extremely powerful and cost saving feature saves space and bandwidth by only keeping one master copy of each file. When the file changes, instead of backing up the entire changed file, the software backs up only the changes. So, if you have a large file that is changed many times -- rather than keeping many similar copies of the large file, our software only stores enough information to reproduce any version of the file.

If any problems are found, our vault triggers the client on your backup computer to send a new copy of the data. When the new data is received, the old data is discarded.
