Restore Complete Systems, Regardless of Hardware, for Unprecedented Recoverability
Streamlined Solutions for Server Restores
Local Restore is a valuable feature that allows each protected office to restore their latest data quickly at LAN speeds, without being constrained by the speed of the company’s internet connection.
During the
backup process, a snapshot of the data is stored- not only in
CRC’s backup data vault, but in the onsite backup appliance as well. In the
majority of cases where an end-user loses data due to accidental deletion,
corruption, or disaster, the user only needs to restore the latest snapshot of
the data in order to resume his or her activities as quickly as possible.
When a restore operation takes place, the backup appliance examines
the data that must be restored. If the data exists in the last snapshot, it is
restored from the backup appliance’s local storage, rather than CRC’s data
vault. Any data that is not contained in this latest snapshot is recovered from
the
CRC data vault instead. Keep in mind that a copy of all data,
including the latest snapshot, is always stored on the offsite CRC data vault.
It is not uncommon for tens or even hundreds of gigabytes of data to be lost
in a typical server malfunction. As we have seen, local restore allows
offices- even those that use inexpensive broadband technologies like DSL or
cable- to protect their data at CRC’s
data center and restore it quickly over a
Local Area Network.
Comparison of Data Restore Methods:
Manual Restores
- Time consuming - everything must be done "by hand"
- Operating systems are complex and volatile, with a mix of permanent and variable information
- Require a broad range of skills, including network, database, operating system and application software expertise
- Depends on ad hoc data management techniques that are unreliable and often out-of-date
|
Bare Metal Restores
- Highly automated - insert a CD, initiate Bare Metal Restore, wait a short time, and restore is completed
- Reduce complexity and costs for IT administrators
- Restore the complete system on new hardware, regardless of manufacturer
- Restores include local data, user pro files, registry/system state, service pack files and encrypted files

The Next Step
By increasing the speed of recovery, even when low-cost WANs are used,
Local Restore provides a balance, between low infrastructure costs and high
service level performance.
